Henry Samueli, in 2005, purchased the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim NHL club. In 2007 the Anaheim Ducks became the first California team ever to win the Stanley Cup.

In 1998, the Samueli Foundation was created to focus on education, health, youth services, and Jewish culture and values. In 2015, Samueli received a prize from the Israeli government for his contribution to innovation globally and in Israel.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually, honoring those individuals who have made significant contributions to the State of Israel and society through sports.
